Self-consolidating concrete (SCC) has had a tremendous impact on the
concrete construction industry, especially the precast concrete industry. When
properly developed and implemented, SCC provides structures that are more
aesthetic while providing quality strength and durability performance, giving
designers more flexibility to produce complex designs, and allowing constructors
more options in construction techniques.
This information sheet outlines the history of SCC;
discusses the fundamental concepts behind SCC and its effects on fresh and
hardened concrete properties; considerations for designing, placing, and testing
SCC; and highlights completed projects that utilized SCC for a variety of
reasons. Additionally, self-consolidating grouts are
discussed.
